Just Go For It

Writer's picture: AnnetteAnnette

Was there ever a time when you knew you had to do something, but you were too fearful of doing it? You were procrastinating about doing it. Probably because it was a new thing, and you never did before?

Many people in the Bible were in this position. God called them to do something so big and out of their league that they didn't do it or that they ran away from the call of God. So if this happens to you, you are in the majority, my friends.

One story that comes to mind was when God told the Israelites to storm the gates of Jericho. They didn't want to face Jericho’s giants because they were so much bigger and stronger than them. “Then they told him [Moses], and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless, the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.” Numbers 13:27-28. So they persuaded 99.9% of the nation of Isreal not to go into the promised land. Due to their disobedience, one entire generation didn’t see the promised land. “They certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it.” Numbers 14:23. Another story that comes to mind is Jonah. The whole book is about the prophet Jonah. God told him to go to Nineveh, but due to his reluctance, Jonah ran the other way, and literally, he went the other way to Tarshish. A giant fish swallowed him until he surrendered to God and went to Nineveh.

There are times when it feels hard to take a step of faith and do what you are called to do. If it is to pray for your coworker or speak to your friend about Christ, or whatever you know, you have to do. Even Jesus knew the struggle. Jesus, himself was reluctant to go through the pain and anguish of the abuse and punishment of the cross. “He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39. Jesus knows what you are experiencing.

So let me give you some advice if this is something that you are currently dealing with. God sees you, and if you call on God for help, He will give you the strength to do it. He will provide you with the willingness to do it, but you just need to take that first step. That is all that God is saying, take the first step, and He will lead you with the rest.
