Stewardship
Has anyone seen the show Shark Tank? It’s about a group of wealthy businessmen and businesswomen known as the sharks. The sharks want to invest in a rising entrepreneur that they think is worthy of their time and money. One notable shark is Barabra Corcoran. She is a real estate mogul. She started her business by getting a $1000 loan and, within 25 years, turned her business into a five billion-dollar company. She was a good steward of her money.
Did you get that word? Steward? I am not talking about airplane steward but biblical stewardship, which is having a healthy management of your resources. Now resources can be anything, money, time, food, or anything used for a purpose. Now I am sure that we all have areas in our lives that we are not good stewards of. Now for me, God has been hinting to me that I have not been a good steward of my time. Now with two kids under the 3, they are time-consuming, so it’s hard to get much done. However, I have pockets of free time throughout my day, where I can get things done, but I am not using it effectively.
In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a parable or a story of the talents. A master of three servants was going away and gave his three servants talents. A talent was a unit of money. So Jesus tells us that the first servant received five, the second received two, and the last had received one. So after the master leaves, scripture states, “Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. And likewise, he who had received two gained two more also. But he who had received one went and dug in the ground and hid his lord’s money.” (verse 16-18). The first two servants were faithful with what was given and increased what was given them. The last servant didn’t do anything with the talent. When the master comes back and takes an account of the first two servant’s handling of the talents, they were given praise. “‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” (verses 21, 23). However, the last servant, the master, calls him a wicked and lazy servant (verse 26).
When we meet Jesus, and He gives an account of everything we have done, the last thing I want is to be called a lazy person who didn’t have good stewardship, just like the last servant. If you have an area in your life that your not a good steward in, let God know. He wants to help. He loves to help with the partnership of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will guide you in being accountable in the areas that you lack in. That is what is happening with me right now. The Holy Spirit will remind me that I can be doing this instead of doing that.
If you need prayer in areas that you need to be a good steward in, let me know, and I can pray for you.
