One of my favorite verses of the Bible is a verse that God had shown to me while I was in college. “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 1st Corinthians 1:27-28. God spoke this verse to me when I was in a position of feeling I was inadequate like I didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. He told me I matter! I have a plan that only I can fulfill. Just like you. You have a part to play in God’s ultimate playwright. There are no understudies for your role, you need to fulfill it.

When King Saul wasn’t doing a great job in leading the nation of Israel, God said to Samuel the High Priest, that He was going to anoint the new king of Israel from the tribe of Judah. So Samuel went down to the house of Jesse. Jesse had gathered his sons to see Samuel. Samuel looked at the firstborn, thinking he will be King. “But the Lord said “Do not look at the appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearances, but the Lord looks at the heart”, 1st Samuel 16:7. Samuel went through the whole lot, but the one who was supposed to be King wasn’t there. “And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?”,Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is keeping the sheep” 1st Samuel 16:11. David to his own family was just a Shepard. His own father probably didn’t think anything was going to come out of David. But God had other plans. David being the lowlife of his family becomes king.

Marie Curie, discovered 2 elements on the periodic table, one was radium and polonium along with her husband. She went to the front lines of the battlefield, driving an ambulance equipped with an x-ray during World War 1. She became a two-time noble prize winner. She was criticized for being a woman in a man’s field. Marie Curie didn’t let anything stop her including getting sick after handling radioactive substances. What I have learned from her life is that she knew she had a purpose and was driven by it. She didn't care if the people around her were against her. She made a huge difference in the science community as well as the medical community.

You are a child of the Highest God. You matter. You are loved. You have a purpose. You never know, whose life you touch.
