Trusting in the Hard Places

Writer's picture: AnnetteAnnette

It is hard to trust people. There I said it because guess what? It is. But it's harder to trust in a God you can not see. It takes a lot of faith, to believe in a God who is not physically visible. It’s like the wind, you know it's there, but you can’t see it. In my own personal life, it’s hard to trust in God, due to my own relationship with my father. He left my mother, my sister, and me when I was 12, because of poor life decisions. There is this saying, you can forgive but you can never forget. That is what happened, with my relationship with my father. Even though I forgave him, I still left a gap between him and me, because I couldn’t fully trust him and that slowly affected my relationship with my Heavenly Father. The more I wanted to trust my Heavenly Father, the more I wanted to push Him away at the same time. Thinking I was going to get hurt again.

God says in the bible, I will never leave you nor forsake you. That phrase is mentioned multiple times in the bible. It is a promise, that God gave us. Unlike a human, God does not make mistakes. He is perfect in every way. He sent His son Jesus to die on a wooden cross, so we won’t face the punishment of death for our failures and sins. The bible talks about how, death is the punishment for sin, and Jesus paid the price so we wouldn’t have too. God loves us so much, He will always be there, so how can we not trust Him?

With everything going on in today’s world, it is no wonder that people can’t trust other people. From lying to deceit, and much more. God is telling you to do the opposite, trust Him. Trust him with every fiber of your being. Trust God with all the places of your heart that you blocked off. Trust him in the dark places of your past. He can turn those dark places into something beautiful. Isaiah 61:3 it states “to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning. the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that he may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that he may be glorified. God wants to create something beautiful in those places of dread. So that He can be glorified in and through you. That verse is also a promise, that if you trust him with your heavy heart, he can create a masterpiece within those broken pieces. So that you live a life that is free of sadness, guilt, and whatever else that you are harboring.

Even though I still have trouble trusting in God from time to time, God brought amazing people in my life to remind me that God still loves me and to keep giving my all to him, even when it’s hard. Sometimes in the hardest times is when you can fully relate to the verse, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Trust him with the broken pieces of your life and He can turn it all around because you are His child and He loves you.
